The Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) is a Central Institution at Leipzig University. The BBZ is based at BIO CITY LEIPZIG, a technology and start-up centre in which science and business work together under one roof.

Research

The wide-ranging research portfolio at the Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) includes current research and development priorities based on high-tech platforms. The focus is on health research, bioeconomy, materials research, environmental analysis and microsystems technology.

The Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) is based at BIO CITY LEIPZIG, which is easily reached by public transport.

  • By tram and bus
    From the city centre, take tram 16 (towards Lößnig) or tram 2 (towards Meusdorf). Alight at Deutsche Nationalbibliothek. BIO CITY LEIPZIG is a five-minute walk away.
    Bus 74 connects BIO CITY LEIPZIG with the districts of Lindenau and Holzhausen.
  • By S-Bahn train
    Alight at Leipzig MDR, which is served by all S-Bahn lines. BIO CITY LEIPZIG is a ten-minute walk away.

  • By train
    Leipzig is easy to reach by train from most European cities. From Leipzig Central Station, take tram 16 towards Lößnig and alight at Deutsche Nationalbibliothek. BIO CITY LEIPZIG is a five-minute walk away.
  • By aeroplane
    Leipzig/Halle Airport is a 30-minute drive from the city centre. A shuttle bus runs every half an hour between the airport and Leipzig Central Station.
    The S-Bahn lines S5 (towards Altenburg) and S5X (towards Zwickau) also run every half an hour to the stop Leipzig MDR. BIO CITY LEIPZIG is a ten-minute walk from this stop.

You can be reached via the A9 (Berlin–Nuremberg), A14 (Halle–Dresden) and A38 (Göttingen–Leipzig) autobahns.

Parking
Roadside parking is available at Deutscher Platz.

Five short-stay parking spaces (up to four hours) are available for visitors in the car park opposite the main entrance to BIO CITY LEIPZIG (proof of parking with parking disc).
